So how can Cox Cooper Ltd make a difference?

In brief, by combining all round practical commercial expertise, and a prompt professional service, with a reasonable approach to fees.

Let’s start by admitting our limitations. If you are looking to throw a whole team of lawyers at a multi-million pound deal or dispute, with staff available 24/7 until the job is done, and where cost is no object – well that’s not us. The big firms in this city are second to none when it comes to that kind of job, and we take our hat off to them.

But what about those (much more common) occasions when what you need is a piece of carefully considered advice, or some attention to a legal problem that is urgent but needs a proper perspective? Is it always necessary to accept that experience comes at a substantial price – sometimes an exorbitant one - or that your job will be passed down to junior and inexperienced lawyers?

We don’t think so. Our directors have had the city centre firm experience in employment law, commercial and corporate law and commercial dispute resolution, and we have brought it to the southern suburbs of Birmingham. And what we have left behind in the process are the high overheads, high costs, slow communication and inconvenience of location often associated with the traditional firms.

Nor have we left it at that. We embraced the communications revolution quicker than many. Using our computer skills to make the typing backlog a thing of the past. Negotiating documents in electronic form. Despatching documents instantly by email that might once have turned up days later in the post. Accessing information storehouses on our clients’ behalf to find out answers to key issues within hours, sometimes in minutes.

And when the overheads are lower, the fees can be lower too. A factor that is exactly what clients of all shapes and sizes will appreciate, especially small and medium sized businesses and senior or executive level employees. Just what we recognise.

That is how we think we can make a difference.

Our approach to costs

On every instruction, we are happy to discuss costs with you in advance.

In many cases, we can provide you with a written cost estimate explaining exactly what work we expect is needed.

In some cases – particularly disputes which may turn into litigation – it is harder to predict the work involved, but we will always be able to give you guidance on each stage in advance and we are happy to work to whatever cost limits we agree with you.

If you are a new client, we will send you our retainer letter at the start of your matter, setting out our costs policies in greater detail.

We are also willing to answer your questions over costs at any time.

For new business clients to the firm, we are a member of the Law Society Lawyers For Your Business scheme, and are able to provide a short first introductory meeting under the scheme free of charge. Please mention this when you first make contact with us.

In short, we believe our costs to be much more reasonable than most of our competitors with similar expertise and experience, and we want you to be fully informed about those from the start.
